Helen Wilcox has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the delivery of quality education and care services predicated on investment in workforce development. Following a career in education, notable in terms of innovation a deep sense of social responsibility, she moved into social work managing a range of statutory and independent services in Scotland and England for young adults and families including on arrival in Birmingham, Adult Mental Health services. More recently, Helen has focused her attention on Adult Social Care providing community based services for older people and adults with long term impairments. Helen held Trustee positions on third sector organisations before joining the Skills for Care Board in 2010 serving as national vice chair from 2011-2017 leaving 2018. In 2015 Helen, with her equally dedicated Trailblazer Group for Adult Care relished the opportunity to, “pick up the pen”, knowing that the most effective way to improve the standard of care was to invest and value the workforce, developing their leaders and managers, securing excellent learning and career development opportunities with Apprenticeships as the cornerstone. “No short cuts to anywhere worth going”, became the mantra of the group. Helen received an MBE in 2016 in recognition of her contribution to Social Care.
